I bought this on 28 February and I’ve had to repair it three times since. It is now 28 May and the thing is beyond capable repair. $34 down the drain! I should have gone with the less expensive ones offered from other manufacturers. The seller was great, but the product is horrible.
This was as close as I could come to a dock that would hold the iPhone in my field of view while driving (by strapping it to an old dash mount and using an extension cord). It is only a holder with two plugs and a transmitter. The bottom plug only charges and a headphone type plug carries the i tunes and phone output to the FM transmitter. That part works but is cumbersome to attach and detach when taking the phone in and out. What is really annoying is the FM interference when I listen to a somewhat weak station. The interference comes and goes depending on the local station signal strength. If I turn it off with a switch I installed in line (the device has no off switch) the interference goes away and so does the charging feature. It also does not stop iTunes playback when the power goes off, and sometimes you have to unplug and replug the top patch cable for the FM transmitter to restart. I would wait till Kensington or Griffin comes out with the real deal.
This device works almost as described. It is adequate as an iPhone holder and does transmit music to the radio. I did have to check several channels before I found one that worked ok for me. If you buy this, don’t plan on it having above average sound quality, it is fair at best. The holder works very well in my opinion. It is made out of a fairly low impact plastic and feels like it might break if I am not gentle with its manipulation. As long as I am careful, I think it will be fine. The phone functionality works but just isn’t practical. If I turn the phone output up all the way and my stereo up all the way, I can barely hear the person calling me. This isn’t really a problem for me. I only bought this for long road trips and I am satisfied with what I got for the price. It will charge my phone on a roadtrip and play music or audiobooks all the while keeping it within easy reach.
I was very excited about getting this after reading the rave reviews, but I am confused at how people think this is a good product. Everything it is suppose to do it does badly.
First off, the audio quality is abysmal, even on the emptiest of radio stations it is rife with interference, clicking noises, static, etc, to the point you can’t even comfortably enjoy what you are listening to.
Secondly, the handsfree feature does not work at ALL, primarily due to the static and audio issue stated earlier. When trying to take or receive a call, the audio that is playing dims and then the stereo station begins blaring very loud interference and static, enough to feel like it is going to blow your car speakers. Faintly in the background, behind all of the interference you can kind of make out that some audio is trying to come through from the phone.
Finally, for something that is designed for the iPhone, the flexible neck is not strong enough to support the iPhone’s weight from shifting left and right while driving. Going straight is fine, but if you turn in either direction, the Flexpod flies sideways with your iphone practically ending up at your feet.
I have tried this in 2 cars and 1 truck with the exact same results in all categories… this is a terrible product! Do not buy unless you want another paperweight!
This is one of the few products that charges your iPhone 3G while you listen to your iPod through FM streaming. The transmission quality is pretty good; Griffin has better quality of transmission though. The phone does get charged and there are no compatibility issues associated with that. The flexible neck, however, could be made much stronger. It easily slacks and the entire cradle can turn sometimes if you make slightly sharp turns. I worked around by purchasing a power splitter for my car and wedging that in between the passenger seat and the gear shifters. Duck taping the car mount system’s power cord to the power splitter made a much firmer contact.
The phone quality is pretty decent; there has been one occurrence where a lot of static interfered with my call but I’m not sure if it’s just a one-off thing.
Overall; I’d recommend buying this as it does its job well enough.
