For select Alpine M-Bus radios, the IPOD-ALP cable from iPodCarParts provides a direct audio input from any iPod with a dock connector, and it also charges the iPod while connected. By using the dock connector for audio output, the highest musical sound quality is achieved- much better than any FM transmitter or headphone adapter can provide. The iPod’s click wheel controls are used for song selection, play control, etc.
Note: This cable charges only Firewire compatible iPods. All new iPods with only USB compatible charging (iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Nano 4G, iPod Classic 120GB, and iPod Touch 2G) will not charge unless a charging adapter is used with it.

This works great for connecting iPod to older Alpine car stereos with CD-changer aux input. Only thing needed and sound quality is phenomenal. It also charges the iPod automatically but this will decrease the battery life. I actually left the red power supply wire disconnected so it would not charge the iPod battery then eventually hooked it up using a $5 on/off wire harness from a hardware store so I could charge it in the car if needed although I haven’t needed to do this yet.
P.S. Be sure to hook up the ground wire.
