Nakamichi In-Dash CD Receiver
Product Description
CD 400, the latest product in Nakamichi’s line of In-Car Entertainment System, received a Design and Engineering Showcase Award at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show. This revolutionary head unit represents a radical departure from the industry norm as it delivers true audiophile sound quality, available for the first time from Nakamichi at an affordable price. The CD 400 incorporates state-of-the-art 24-bit digital-to-analog converters, an advanced technology application unheard of before in the mid-price range. The result – audibly superior musical reproduction! To complement the ultimate in digital-to-analog conversion accuracy, a high-resolution preamplifier circuit topology was developed to achieve ultra low-noise and distortion levels and a highly linear signal transmission to the powerful and dynamic 47W x 4 channel power amplifier. Additionally triple-band tone controls – a Nakamichi tradition – are included to allow for fine-tuning the bass, midrange and high frequency ranges. This is essential for the corrective compensation of the poor acoustics in automobile interiors or source program material. The unit’s extraordinary mechanics and electronics are combined with an equally refined cosmetic design. Understated, yet sophisticated the CD 400 will grace the dashboard of any automobile. The color of the front panel illumination is user-selectable to best match the color scheme of the automobile’s dash. On the LCD display, green or amber is selectable as are the unit’s illuminated push buttons, allowing for four different color combinations.

IF YOU ARE INTO MUSIC FROM CDS AND THE SOUND QUALITY IS VERY IMPORTANT TO YOU THIS IS THE UNIT TO GET..NO ELECTRONIC MUSIC PROCESSOR OR ARTIFICIAL CRAP JUST PURE AUDIOPHILE QUALITY SOUND.. THE WAY MUSIC SHOULD SOUND….HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ESPECIALLY NEW GENERATION.
Very briefly, The player sounds great when it works, however is skips at even the slightest bump in the road. I’m not talking about off road here, I’m talking about any big expansion joint or the slightest pothole.
I’m about to start exchange request proceedings with this Amazon Merchant. I hope to get a unit that works, so I can enjoy the audio quality!
Stay tuned…….
I’ve had this unit for a couple of years now and still enjoying it. It has never skipped on any cd yet. Although a couple of discs did get stuck in there. I came to write this review because I am looking at the 8 1/2 soundscape thing. Man somebody has to drop the price on that mess. But I would happily recommend Nakamichi to my friends.
Been a Nak owner since the mid 1980′s when I had a Nak TD700 in my car. Paired with a/d/s/ 320i and 300i powered with 2 Nak PA300II amps. Sold the a/d/s 300i and 1 amp to a good friend since my car was totalled in an accident and picked up a Toyota pickup. The TD700 died and replaced with a Nak CD45z which the laser just crashed after 10 years. Replaced the unit with a Sony CDXGT930UI and couldn’t make the sound even come close to a Nak. Cranked up, the Sony made my wife’s and my ears ache so I pulled the unit out and replaced with the Nakamichi CD400 purchased from Woofers, Etc. through Amazon.com. It sounds awesome and still pushing the 20+ year old a/d/s/ speakers and Nakamichi PA300II amp with pure clean sound. Smooth jazz to heavy metal, its like heaven. Waiting to put an Infinity Basslink loaded subwoofer within the next month and the system should be complete. So happy Nakamichi is still producing great sounding products but the cost is 1/3 of what they used to cost. I’m forever a Nak fanboy and will never get anything else.
