Once I got this installed it works great and sound quality is very good. I recently installed this onto a CDA-9827 model alpine head unit. I am also running an existing 420i ipod interface. When I installed this unit (as well as the necessary xmd-1000 tuner box) I ran into some trouble b/c of the changer (ipod) hookup. This adapter unit has two (male and female) ai-net plugs, which are wired in series together in the adapter allowing it to be pass -through. I plugged the male into the exisiting 420i and the female linked up with the existing male plug coming from the head unit. After the install, the Ipod interface functioned as normal and the xm radio appeared on the head unit, but there was no audio coming from the xm. After several days dealing with tech support @ terk, come to find out that this XM Direct adapter must be plugged directly into the head unit (via the male right angle plug and NO extensions), and that the changer or other ai-net accesory must plug into the female plug on the adapter. If not, the xm will function but there will be no audio: Just as appeared in my install. The problem with this is that the supplied plug is only about 1 ft long, so I had to make a pretty creative hiding spot for the adapter behind the dash. They could solve this dillema by either reprogramming the adapter to work with an extension or provide a longer adapter cable.
