I have owned this receiver for a while now, and before it, its predecessor. The sound and customization are top notch. I run an active setup, utilizing the receivers crossovers and it works great. There is a plethora of settings to tailor your sound or make it work with the gear you have. The USB input is great, I have a portable hard drive in my center console with around 70gb of tunes and this plays them all. Boot up times with the USB is very respectable too!
Considering this unit has dropped in price drastically, now only 129.99. This is an absolute steal. (This used to be a $300 unit) I see no one reviewed it, so I felt the need.
Also, the ability to change the color of the buttons/screen is great. One big selling point for people who like to make the integration into their car look right. I hate seeing a car with stock red guages/lights and a big blue headunit. With this, you can make the buttons/screen whatever color you want!
I installed this unit myself in an 04′ Trailblazer, it worked fine for a while, then it would only work when the key was on or in the ACC position, once the engine was started it would shut off. If I turned the engine on/of several times eventually it would stay on. Finally put the OEM unit back in. After about 4 months I decided to take it to Best Buy pay $50 and see if they had some sort of magic touch that I did not. Long story short within a week after installation, the unit now stays running after the engine is off and the drivers side door is opened ( thats when the OEM unit would shut off) the Ipod USB feature frequently shows ERROR and secures itself for no good reason, and the CD player is defective, so after a couple hundred $$ I’m going to put a Pioneer like I have in my other vehicle in and junk this one!
Good packaging and arrived on time.
My brother is very happy with this gift from me and swears by the sound quality and other features for this player.
Loves the driver’s sound stage (or something similar) feature.
This HU is loaded with features and the user can adjust the display color to match the dash lights of their car.
Sounds great and the Amber lighting matches my BMW dash lighting perfectly.
And the basic black w/white lettering looks far better than most of the HU’s nowadays that are “blinged” out and look gaudy that are made of cheap looking multi-color plastic.
It also works with iPods/iPhones/USB sticks and most MP3 players.
I have the USB running to my glove box so my iPhone stays safely out of sight and my glove box locked so I don’t need to remove it every time I make a quick stop at the store, post office or anywhere else where I will leave the car only for a minute or two.
I’ve also used a Sansa MP3 player and various USB sticks and they have all worked without any problems.
Only negatives are that the display is hard to read with the top down and/or during sunny days and that some of the audio controls are embedded in the menu making adjustments while driving not a recommended practice.
Once your preferences are set though you don’t need to worry about it after that and you’re good to go.
It would be difficult if not impossible to find a HU with all of these features at this price.
If you’re looking for a loaded HU at a great price, look no further.
Great deck. Great sound. The amount of control you have over your listening environment is why I so enjoy this deck. You have control of just about everything. It takes some time to learn how to take full advantage of this system…but over all a great purchase
