I own this piece of…equipment. It was given to me for Christmas from my Daughter and I Loved it! UNTIL…it quit, just quit. It was manufactured in October 2006, I received it Christmas 2006, it’s warrnty was good until March 2007 and it quit April 2007. When I got in touch with the Company they said, “Sorry!!!”…and when I quizzed a friend of mine who owns a T.V. Store and Electronics Repair Shop he said most shops don’t repair them because the parts cost more than the Unit and even if they did repair them the labor would be equal to the cost of a new Unit. His recommendation, either buy American or buy an extended warranty if one is available and if you buy one as a Gift, purchase the warranty as part of the gift as well. As for my “Haier” Portable DVD, it’s somewhere between the Potato peelings and the Carrot shavings.
It contained a battery, but it never recognized any DVDs we put into it, a real disappointment on Christmas morning for our granddaughter.
We bought it on sale for $69 in July and it worked beautifully up until about a month ago, when it just fizzled and died mid-movie. I think it’s the battery, but I can’t find any place that sells a replacement and for the $50 it costs (per a review I just read), it’s not worth taking the chance that replacing the battery will fix it. I’ve learned my lesson and will research into performance before I purchase another portable DVD player.
Musing in Massachusetts…
I have had mine for almost a year. I have never had any problems with it. It plays the movies very well and CDS and MP3′s too. It was one of the nices gifts that I gotten in a long time. I It came with a portable battery pack for travel and a head set a car adapter and one for the house too.
Be careful when you buy this product!!! It does not have built in battery. We bought because we wanted a DVD that can play also Vcd when we received I realized that it does not have built in battery. I had to go and buy external one for $50. Thus it is not worth the money that you spend.
