Mine broke in three months. Starting making a loud clicking noise every time I access or eject a CD. My choices from JVC? Pull it out, at MY expense, drive it an hour, at MY expense to the nearest authorized repair shop, then drive back to pick it up and reinstall it again, at MY EXPENSE, or, Ship it to them, at MY expense and wait for the mail.
Well, I chose the former. The idiot at the local repair shop in Haverhill, MA tells me it’s fixed a week later. I drive up there, install it, and guess what? NOT FIXED. SAME problem. It seems the genius claims he couldn’t reproduce the problem, and rather than call me to make sure he knew what he was looking for, he just performed an “alignment” on it. So, out again it goes, and this time the clowns ship it to JVC. FIVE WEEKS later I am STILL waiting for it. After calls, e-mails, letters, they tell me they have FINALLY come to the conclusion to replace it, rather than fix it (DOH!) and will ship it back to me. They even told me they were going to overnight it. Well, guess what they do. They ship it Ground, so it’ll now take an additional 8 days. I will NEVER buy another JVC piece of junk again. 1st of all, what car stereo breaks in 3 months??? And then they top it off with the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. No wonder both JVC AND their repair center both have negative BBB ratings and JVC is in the toilet. Has to try and team up with Kenwood just to stay afloat. Good Riddance. But another brand people, don’t bet burned.
As for the radio, yes, the features are nice, and the sound isn’t bad (when it works) but the display is quite possibly the WORST you’ll find in a car stereo that meant to be driven in the day time. You can NOT see it in the glare, and there’s also no way to display the time AND the track info at the same time. Boy am I disappointed.

This radio has a known issue with the CD player clicking when you change audio sources or insert a new CD. JVC finally released a firmware update but it does not always solve the problem. I am very disappointed in this radio.

I just bought a 97 nissan maxima and that old school radio just wasn’t cutting it. I bought this JVC for the price because at this price there is no way you’ll get a HD Radio. Installation was a breeze (Note: get your vehicle’s wiring diagram before installation this will save you so much time). Sound is great the bass is a little toned down compared to my other sony xplod but the sound is much clearer and crisper you get more sound detail/ quality. What really surprised me was how sturdy the buttons were. I’m used to JVCs being real flimsy butthis wasn’t the case solid. My only complain is the controls on this thing. You have to read the manual to adjust some things like the frequency levels and even the clock.

Then it was stolen along with my car, but the joke is on them, I still have the face!
I almost gave it 4 stars because it’s a little ugly IMHO but I knew that when I bought it and I’m more of a function over form guy anyway.
Very customizable, JVC does a good job with EQ, the deck sounds decent right out of the box with several EQ presets, and for the geeks like me it has a fully adjustable 7 band EQ (the vendor description says 3, it’s WRONG) and an independently controlled rear preamp output with crossover adjustment in the deck, this would only be better if cutoff freq and slope were customizable, it is limited to 3 generic cutoff freq ranges (High/Med/Low) but for only ONE Benji I can’t complain!
I bought this for my 2nd car because I already had the earlier model (KD-HDR1) and really enjoyed it, after hooking this one up I was VERY impressed at the improvements they had made and thanks to HD being more common this was only HALF the price of the original.
One new feature is the ability to preset the HD2 and HD3 stations, with the older model you had to preset the main station and switch over once it was locked on to digital (not great when you don’t want to listen to the HD1 while you wait for the HD2!)
My favorite new feature is the built in AUX jack, with the older one I had to add an AUX input with an adapter from JVC that uses the changer link, because this model comes with it built in it’s a much easier, cheaper, and cleaner install.
When I replace my stolen gas getter I’ll be ordering up another one of these to slap back in there!

I was mostly interested in this unit for 2 reasons: HD Radio and Bluetooth connectivity for my phone. Both of these functions work great… The unit is well laid out and easy to operate while driving. I purchased the JVC Bluetooth adapter that goes with it and it works great. Every time you climb into the car it immediately recognizes the phone. And you can sync more than one phone. (although only one phone can be connected at a time). The HD Radio sounds great and I can recommend this receiver without reservation.
