I purchased this unit from Amazon in July to add to my AVH-P3100DVD. I had BestBuy install it. After one day, I got zero to garbled reception on HD radio. I went online and found out how to take my dash apart (no, I don’t even want to get into my experieces with BestBuy installation). I did find loose connections but after carefully checking and reassembling I was confident that it was installed correctly. No cigar. So I removed it and it has been a paper weight ever since. Why didn’t I send it back to Amazon? I was too upset to go through all the trouble. I called Pioneer and they said: “Well, you can always get a bad unit”. When it was installed and working or not working, you cannot get any regular FM stations. The whole concept is a joke. People say: “Get an antenna splitter”. I bought one and substitued it while I was doing the above troubleshooting. It made no difference. Of course if the HD unit was defective there was really no way to tell if the antenna splitter worked. Pioneer tech support says that you would need TWO separate antennas. Just a final comment: I hardly listen to FM anyway because it is almost impossible to find anything but commercials. Thank God for Fox News on XM.

I have a PIODEHP6100BT and installed this. You do not need the Y antenna cable because the onboard tuner is completly disabled with this box, in my case. I had intermittent issues with this tuner. First, the station and song info started in the middle and scrolled to the left. I wanted the full display to scroll-that’s my radio and not this tuner. Second, the audio would just cut out while still transferring the data (song, station name, and artist would still show). I know it was this tuner because the other features still put out audio (cd, usb and such). It would only come back if you turned off the ignition and turn it back on. Finally, randomly it would power off the head unit completly. The power button turned it back on, but just shutting down whenever is annoying.
These are the reasons I sent it back. Also, not all stations have HD and not all HD stations output song titles, just station name.

I have been disappointed with the offerings in digital included car stereos (all in one) but, this is a very good option if you want the clearest, cleanest, listening pleasure from your car stereo.
The wiring is very simple, plug and play really. Once the unit is installed with a compatible receiver the control is all handled by the head unit… mine is touch screen which is a really nice way to go.
I also like the fact that I can be listening to a station that has good music but, for unknown reasons they put a morning show on and if this station has a second digital channel I can bypass the morning show and still get my music!

I have not listened to broadcast radio in a few years. But I have always been interested in radio frequency technology and really wanted to know what HD Radio was all about. I purchased a Pioneer F700BT last year and tought this would be a fun toy to add to the system. I am very impressed with HD Radio! It really does produce CD quality on the main carrier. AM is the real trip! It is night and day difference. All and all if you listen to radio now, you will really enjoy HD Radio and this unit works just like it says it does.
