No problems with it. It turns off after a few minutes of no current draw. Activating the power locks is enough to turn it on. Comes with charging resistor and instructions on how to use it. It helps prevent the head light from dimming to the beat of music when its cranked. LED display shows voltage of capacitor.
I am also a former sufferer of the headlights dimming. This is a nice product having the LED readout on it. Just be sure you properly size your CAP and your overall electrical system for your needs. I stopped at 1.5 thinking that this would be enough. My system outside of the head unit and the sub-woofer solution is stock equipment. And, to clarify, this is no dig on the product, just my understanding of my needs. When I put this in, the headlights didn’t dim as much but I did notice a remarkable difference in my system. And the LED readout helped to get an early understanding that I may be presented with a future electrical problem.
I had noticed that the system wasn’t charging close to a 13-14 volt level when the car was running and above the RPM to kick in the alternator. Short story, the additional step I took to remedy my problem was an aftermarket higher output alternator (after the oem one started to die). Realize that the Cap will provide that shot of power on a bass hit, but if your system can’t help the Cap recover for the next hit, you’re still going to dim. I went from a 100amp to 160 amp alternator. Seems that with the load on my overall vehicle adding the extra amps helps the cap work properly.
This really did clean up the power going to the subs. Nice clear strong hits, not the wobbly tub farts i was used to. (Best way I could describe it).
