Once again, Sony gets a failure on user interface; The most annoying aspect of this unit is the [lack of] volume control; If you reach for the volume control, you must be more gentle than a cotton swab; Otherwise, you are not adjusting the volume, but modifying various parameters; To rub salt into the wound, you have to find the itty-bitty mode button in order to exit parameter-modification mode — either that or wait 5 minutes or there abouts for the unit to realize you aren’t interested in modifying parameters;
You want to adjust bass/treble/mid? Well, that’ll take you about 40 button clicks, traversing 6 menus, dialing db ranges, adjusting filter cut-offs, and there is no “save” button or “undo” button; Speaking of buttons…
Don’t bother trying to figure out how to turn the unit off… you need tweezers for that one; Turn the unit on? There is no “ON” button;
Oh, but the unit comes with an itty-bitty remote… Of course, it’s not lighted, so you’d otherwise be fumbling around;
Sure, once you run through 27 menus and dialed and button pressed your way through a maze, you can dial up decent sound, but you’d better hope each and every track you play has the same EQ or you’re screwed; Speaking of sounds…
When you turn off the ignition in your vehicle, the unit beeps through the sound system as a caution reminder that you’re supposed to remove the face plate… of course, they don’t give a CASE for the faceplate and don’t offer any recommendations on where you are supposed to PUT the faceplate… Beyond annoying… That’s all we need, more beeps and buzzers and alarms and LEDs that we can’t shut off; If you remove the faceplate and restore it each and every trip, you are certain to render the unit defected;
Sony needs to take a look at Apple and maybe they might learn something about user interfaces (not that Apple has it quite right either — try setting EQ on an iPod… not quite there either);

Bought this for my daughter and she loves it! the instructions from crutchfield were great and she installed it herself…now this is a girl who asks: what kind of screwdriver? plus sign or minus?

This review is a bit tricky.
This stereo has a great look to it, but it also has it’s draw backs.
The Good news:
> Intall is a snap, well the first time…
> Multiple configurations, Lows, Mids and Highs.
> Sub inputs are easy to integrate
> One of the few with Ipod and USB !
> Sound quality is outstanding!
The bad news:
> It went out several times after installing. We found that the wiring harness does not lock into the back of the unit. NICE SONY really NICE! can we say common sense!
> Make sure you use wire ties, tape and anything else you can to secure the harness. Also, ensure you have enough slack wiring so it doesn’t vibrate out after installation.
> Buttons are small, really small. You won’t be able to use gloves..
> The volume control is touchy, too touchy. It is also the same button used to set the controls. Soooo, if you touch it and press on it, you end up messing up your settings…..Again, common sense outstanding Sony engineering, not really….
3 out of 5 due to lack of thought, by the engineers.
