I got one from Target on clearance (cheap) but it didn’t work. The display glows, but doesn’t display anything. I rarely get things that are broken right out of the box, but this was. Hopefully an isolated instance.

I purchased one of these from frys hoping to add hd radio to my car. they claim it is a universal kit but you still need a line-in on your head unit so this is far from universal. I had the remote break within 5 days of buying it. tech support is non existant. I ripped open the control with the lcd to find what broke, turns out the connector itself is so cheaply built the pins pushed backwards in the plastic and quit working immediately. By ripping the connector apart I got it to work for about 30 days, then the lcd just failed for no reason. Very poor quality product and I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.

The controller is much smaller than you would expect from the pictures. The converter is bigger, almost as big as 3 dvd video cases stacked or a mid size paperback. System seems reasonably well made, it does work but the display is too small to be read easily, not something you will changing quickly with out taking your eyes off the road longer than is prudent. Instructions etc can be found at vr-3 * com.
You can really tell when the HD kicks in, sound is entirely different. A little tinny due to compression but much more dynamic. Don’t understand the thinking on design, there is only a cigarette lighter power system but to properly install you would need to do drilling and permanent mounting. If drilling holes a permanent power source would make more sense.
Not being willing to tear my dash apart without assesing how well it works, I attached to an aftermarket replacement car antenna and the few HD stations it pulls in makes me even more reluctant to tear my dash apart.
Don’t know if that’s a reflection on the system or the antenna or lack of strong transmitters in my area. For what I paid I plan on adapting to a home receiver, which this system should be good for.

This is a very poorly designed product, all the way around. It has the cosmetic appearance of a very low-end electronic product. The cable from the remote to the base unit is bulky & short. Lousy design making it hard to install. The base unit is massive and hard to conceal under the dash. Power needs to come from your 12v accessory/cigarette lighter on the dash. Again, making it hard to conceal/install. To sum up…….Save Yourelf Plenty of Frustration, and AVOID this product.
